ooty journey

Our journey to Ooty was a planned one. We book train tickets before three months to get it confirmed in the Ooty toy train as it was our dream, book hotel , search websites for route map and places to visit and to hire bike for ooty journey. we boardered train from Trivandrum. It was tvm Chennai superfast express which departure at 5.10 pm from Trivandrum. at About 2.10am we reach Coimbatore and from there we catch nilgiri express to mettupalayam at about 5.30 a.m  .
From where our dream journey begins in the toy train which starts at 7.10am.We were travelling in it for the first time. Even we book it before three months, we get it confirmed in the final chart. I think it is ideal to book this before 120days  for a comfortable journey, as there were just four coaches in it and some of them were unreserved. There is a great difference between first and second class tickets , go only in first class which is farthest from engine which on the hind end and produce noise and smoke.

You can watch some extra scenic views from the first coach like, entering in tunnels, bridges, and view of a cliff over. The engine is on the rear which push the train instead of pulling, which some times feels we are riding an elephant. There is a total of only 16 seats in first class. The journey was a nice experience. The train and its stations gives the feeling of very old time. we got down udagamandalam at about 11.45am. From there we hire auto to reach hotel preethi classic towers, In conoor road  where we already booked our room. In that evening we visited rose garden and botanical garden ,but there was no show as they were preparing for the flower show on may month. Our hotel is about 2km distance   from the garden. So we decided to had a walk. there are many shops in that road side from were we can purchase ooty  homemade chocolates, aromatic oils, special tea and coffee powders , toda embroidaries and woolen cloths. We had a nice shopping experience there.
In the very next day morning ,after break fast we got in to Classic Rentals in the rose garden road to hire a two wheeler. B ut we had to wait till 9o’clock to get the shop opened . by giving the copy of id card , hotel address and an advance of rs.500 for 24hrs, Sri.Saravanan ,the owner handover  a duro for us.
pykkara falls
First we decided to go through mysoor highway to visit pykkara waterfalls which is about 24 km from ooty.  When visiting such places we usually catched by tour operators and get into their vans to see different spots. But it was an entirely different experience to travel in bike besides the pine forest.

I have no words to explain that feelings. On the way to pykkara we also visited banasurasagardam and some shooting spots. we need to walk one km from the entrance to reach the falls. It was really a fantastic view and very peace full atmosphere there. In the return journey we entered the Conoor road. But the coonoor road was entirely different from that to pykkara . There are many deviations and hairpin curves. but we got many scenic views  in that journey. As children are with as we visited Sims park which is so ideal for families. it was a quite, calm place with children’s park ,boating, garden etc. our return journey was through mrc road which gives a view of MRC and golf club. After visiting some more places around we handover the vehicle at about 8pm and so he gives a balace of rs.100.so we spend only a total of rs.600/-for both bike rent and petrol for that days fantastic journey. In the next day morning we visited ooty lake. It was easy for us to get tickets for pedal boat as we reach there earlier. there are so many rides for children. We also visited the thread garden near  by  where the garden is made up of artificial flowers with threadwork then we returned. but the sweet memories in my mind is that bike

  1. Nice and informative blog. Me and my hubbie are also planning to hire a kinetic honda/activa when we visit ooty and conoor. It's something we would like to explore ourselves. I was wondering if the ride was safe along ghat roads as I would be riding in parts. Did you switch off the engine while going downhill? Just need some tips and wondering if there are many female riders on the there? Thanks.
